New Research and Exploits to be Revealed at 5th IoT Village at DEF CON 27 in Las Vegas Presented by Independent Security Evaluators Call for Papers Now Open BALTIMORE…APRIL 11, 2019 – IoT security leaders, researchers and influencers, are invited to present new research and newly-discovered vulnerabilities at DEF CON 27 IoT Village. August 8-11 in Las Vegas. Presented by security consulting and research firm, Independent Security Evaluators, IoT Village at DEF CON has established a worldwide reputation at the largest gathering for hackers. In only five years, IoT Village has showcased over 50 speakers who have exposed more than 300 vulnerabilities with connected devices, garnering worldwide recognition for many of these findings. IoT Village serves as a high-profile platform for the hacking community to inform manufacturers and alert consumers about vulnerabilities in found in many of the connected devices now fixtures of everyday life. It features talks and workshops by hackers and researchers who dissect real-world exploits along with IoT hacking contests for attendees to play. “If your organization has important news or revelations about IoT security shortcomings, this is where you want to inform the community about it,” says Ted Harrington, ISE. “IoT Village is successful because it presents the expertise of the best and brightest among us.” Speaking Topics All talks related to IoT security issues are welcome, with special preference given to previously unpublished research and newsworthy topics including: • IoT Devices - Demonstrate how insecure IP-enabled embedded systems are. Smart home devices, drones, smart cars, and office technology are all of interest. • IoT Device Management - Discuss best practices for deploying and building security into IoT devices. • Vulnerabilities and Remediation - Show what zero-days, exploits, or vulnerabilities were found in an IoT device and then how the security flaw can be fixed. Finding a hack is great, but fixing it is better. • Demonstrable Research - Present attacks that result in mechanical operation of the device's physical functionality with a visibly evident manifestation of the exploit? If it lights, up smokes or even moves, it makes for a great presentation. • Healthcare & IoT - Discuss how IoT devices are impacting the realm of healthcare, including medical devices, patient health and hospital security. • Travel, Hospitality, and IoT - Analyze how IoT is impacting the travel & hospitality industry, guest safety, and the connected hotel room.
