Call for Papers

Call for Papers
IEEE PerCom, now in its eighteenth year, will be held in Austin, Texas in March 2020. Austin is the capital of Texas and the eleventh largest city in the US. It is known as the “live music capital of the world”, is famous for its barbecue, and is a progressive tech-centric town. PerCom is the premier annual scholarly venue in the areas of pervasive computing and communications. Pervasive computing and communications have evolved into highly active areas of research; they have found their way into many current commercial systems due to the tremendous advances in a broad spectrum of technologies and topics including wireless networking, mobile and distributed computing, sensor systems, ambient intelligence, and smart devices.

PerCom 2020 solicits research contributions in all areas pertinent to pervasive computing and communications. Within computer science, these areas often cross the boundaries between the traditional areas of research, aiming to bring substantial advance to pervasive systems.

In particular, we look for contributions on:

Advances in pervasive systems and infrastructures: middleware systems and services; data engineering for pervasive computing; clouds, cloudlets, and fog computing; integrations of smartphones in pervasive experiences; applications of device-to-device coordination.
Theories, models, and algorithms: context modeling and reasoning; adaptive and context-aware computing; activity recognition; programing paradigms; applied machine learning; cognitive computing techniques.
Domain-specific challenges and novel applications: urban/mobile crowdsensing & intelligence; pervasive computing for healthcare; cyber-physical pervasive computing; innovative pervasive computing applications.
Intersections of pervasive computing with: social networks; opportunistic networks; Internet of things; sensor networks; RFID systems; big data and cyber-physical systems.
New techniques for user-level concerns: participatory and social sensing; trust, security, and privacy; user interface, interaction, and persuasion; social networking and pervasive computing.
Technological innovations: architectures, protocols, and technologies for pervasive communications; mobile and wearable computing systems and services; smart devices and intelligent environments; positioning and tracking technologies.
Contributions can be analytical, empirical, technological, methodological, or a combination of these. Papers reporting strong systems engineering contributions backed by solid and appropriate evaluations are strongly encouraged. The impact of the contributions should be demonstrated in the context of pervasive computing and communications applications. Papers applying known techniques from other fields must clearly demonstrate substantial novelty or pervasive computing impact.

Important Dates
Paper registration: September 13, 2019
Paper submission: September 20, 2019
Notification: December 13, 2019 (tentative)
Camera Ready Deadline: January 31, 2020
Submission Details
Paper submission has to be done for the main conference and all associated events via EDAS. If you do not have an EDAS account, please, register first (it is free) via the following link: register. The direct submission link for PerCom 2020 is: here.

Submitted papers must be unpublished and not considered elsewhere for publication. Also, they must show a significant relevance to pervasive computing and communications. Submitted papers will undergo a rigorous "single-blind" review process handled by the Technical Program Committee. Only electronic submissions in PDF format will be considered.

The IEEE LaTeX and Microsoft Word templates, as well as formatting instructions, can be found here. Papers must be at most 9 pages of technical content (10pt font, 2-column format), including text, figures, and tables and up to one additional page for references only.

Best Paper Award
The best paper will receive the prestigious Mark Weiser Best Paper Award. Papers of particular merit will be considered for a special issue of the Elsevier journal of Pervasive and Mobile Computing (PMC).
